CIS is pleased and honored to cooperate in recognizing the excellence of its valued members, especially when they have performed for significant periods of time at high-quality levels in science, technology, education, or other professions.

To pro-actively assist in recognizing the excellence of its members, CIS has established this Senior Members sub- committee, which promotes searching for outstanding members who deserve elevation to the IEEE Senior Member grade and assists in preparing their nominations for submission to the IEEE. The Senior Members sub- committee’s main tasks include to

  1. Encourage qualified members to apply for Senior Member (SM) elevation;
  2. Liaise with chapters to identify potential SM candidates and assist applicants in identifying SM references;
  3. Publicize value and benefits of becoming senior member;
  4. Post regular announcements in IEEE newsletter and Web pages;
  5. Plan membership development activities;
  6. Organize a special Senior Member Nomination/Elevation session during major conferences;

The IEEE Senior Members Candidates shall be engineers, scientists, educators, technical executives or professionals in IEEE CIS fields, satisfying the specific criteria:

  1. Have been in professional practice for at least ten (10) years;
  2. Shown significant performance over a period of at least five (5) years; and
  3. Supplied three (3) references from current IEEE members holding the grade of Fellow, Senior Member, or Honorary Member.
