Welcome from the Vice President for Technical Activities

Welcome to the Technical Activities page of the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society (CIS).

IEEE is the world's largest technical professional organization for the advancement of technology, having as its motto “Advancing Technology for Humanity”. The IEEE Computational Intelligence Society contributes to this common goal in what concerns its field of activity: “Computational Intelligence”. A significant part of this contribution relates to technical activities.

The technical activities of our Society are governed by the Technical Activities Committee and mostly organized around Technical Committees (TCs) and Task Forces (TFs). In 2023 a new TC on Ethical, Legal, Social, Environmental and Human Dimensions of AI/CI (SHIELD) has just been created. This new TC joins the 12 exisiting TCs usually grouped in three main categories:

1. Technology-oriented TCs promoting CI technologies:

2. Application-oriented TCs dealing with applications of CI technologies:

3. Incubator TCs trying to identify and nurture new CI technologies and new areas for CI applications:

You can find out more information about each of these TCs by following those links provided to the left.

The Technical Activities Committee also includes the Strategic Planning Sub-Committee, and the Mentoring and Skills Development Sub-Committee. The overall structure is completed by the TFs that are grouped under the different TCs and are focused on more specific areas of CI.

Our Society has some technical activities that are not linked to any specific TC. We launched an IEEE CIS Technical Challenge Challenge in 2019 running this year its Fourth edition. We also maintain a Scientific Mentoring Program linked to our main Conferences and Journals. For the next two years we are designing a mixture of different activities and initiatives. These activities range from contributing to conferences (with papers, special sessions, panels, tutorials, workshops, etc) and journals (with papers and special issues), to consolidating recently launched initiatives.

The appointment process to be considered to become a member of a TC may be found here. If you are interested in being considered for a position on one of our Technical Committees, please send an email to cis-info@ieee.org with a link to your CV.
